Installation instructions

TOOLS

  • A ladder

  • A portable drill with 6, 8 and/or 10mm bits. If the walls are made of stone, you will probably need a more powerful, vibrating drill with output higher than 450 Watts.

  • A measuring tape.

Be careful!

Make sure that no electrical cables pass under the spot you want to drill. There is serious danger of short-circuit and electrocution!

MEASUREMENTS

Generally, we want our curtains, when closed, to cover the whole of the window including its frame.

With curtain rods we order rods 40-50cm longer than our window (plus the finials). In this way, the wall brackets will be 7-10cm away from the window frame and the finials will have at least another 10cm of grace. We make sure that the rod will hung a minimum of 10cm higher than the window so that the window panes do not hit on the rings when we open them.

In the case of a curtain rod with a recess bracket, where we must drill the side wall as well, we measure the total length of the wall bracket, taking into account that the rod will rest at the center of the hollow part at the end of the bracket. In this way we make sure that we drill the side wall at the right distance for the rod to hung parallel to the window.

With curtain pelmets we do not need to leave so much grace because the curtains run from one end of the pelmet to the other. Usually, a length 20-30cm wider than the window frame is sufficient. Pelmets always have fixed hungers and we mark the wall for drilling following the distance between them. Don?t forget that the pelmets final position should be high enough for the panes to open unobstructed.

Roman mechanisms are recommended on drawn window panes. Here we measure exactly the area that we want our curtain to cover leaving no grace. In case of mechanisms longer than 2.00m, it is better to divide them in two parts that work independently with two pulleys.

INSTALLATION

After we have finished with the measurements and markings on the wall, it is time to drill. Inside the packaging of the rods or pelmets you will find all the necessary screws and u-pats. If you are going to drill on gypsum panels you will need special u-pats. On each u-pat there is a small number (6, 8 or 10). This corresponds to the diameter of the drill bit you will need, i.e. 6, 8 or 10mm. When we are drilling we must take care to drill vertically to the wall and deep enough for the full length of the u-pat and screw. After we finish drilling we insert the whole of the u-pats into the hole and then the screws in order to fasten firmly the wall brackets or pelmet hungers to the wall.

GOOD LUCK!

(If you don't feel confident with the above instructions and you live in the greater Athens area, give us a call and we can arrange for a technician to come and help you.)
